JEFF TO PRODUCE WIFE OF 10CC LIGHT MAN

March 11, 2009-I met a great jazz singer named Judy Shire on line when I was pitching my songs. Her and her husband, one time 10CC light man, John Shiers, took an interest in "Immune to a Heartache," off my 2000 Jeff Lehman Debut release. I changed the key to accommodate her singing range and revamped the arrangement. The song features Judy on vocals doing an awesome rendition of the song. Also featured on the song is myself on keyboards, Kevin Holevar on guitar, Detroit Symphony Orchestra musician Don Lewandowski on an antique upright bass from the 1800s and my Dad Bill Lehman on drums. After we finished this we thought it would be a good idea to do a whole CD together. We are currently recording that, and hope to have it out sometime in late 2009, early 2010.

The link above will take you to a partial version of the song at Judy's site. You may have to scroll down a bit to find it. Look for the words "Immune to a Heartache". That will be the link.

LOOKING GLASS DETROIT FREE PRESS ARTICLE ADDED

December 26, 2008-On July 6, 2008 the Detroit Free Press interviewed me about the upcoming Looking Glass show in Wyandotte. It's taken me five months to upload it, but here it is. Note: It is formatted a bit differently than it may have appeared on line.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL!!

A NEW MIX OF "MY HEART WANTS TO BELIEVE YOU" ADDED TO THE SOUNDS PAGE

November 7, 2008 On September 23rd I re-mixed this song. It has new parts and a new beginning. I like this version better than the Lehman's Terms release. My songs are like fine wines getting better with age...or maybe it's me getting better.

THE CITY LIGHTS BAND REFORMS

October 25, 2008 Back in 1979, at a very young age, I formed a pop group called, The City Lights Band. The group became popular in the metro-Detroit area for a while playing ice rinks, roller rinks and local clubs. We had a strange cult following of kids are age...everyone was looking for "the party" at that age. In 1984, after fights and disagreements, mostly due to our immaturity and age, we broke up. This breakup gave way to the formation of other local groups, "The Break", " The Dream" and others. Well after nearly 25 years we are putting this thing back together for recording and an occasional gig or two.

THE SUPER 70s SHOW IS NOW BOOKING FOR 2009

The new lineup features: Looking Glass, Chuck Negron (ex-Three Dog Night singer), Andrew Gold, Henry Gross, Chi Coltrane and Sonny Geraci and The Outsiders.

September 29, 2008 HAPPY 60th Birthday to Grand Funk's Mark Farner...a great hometown boy here in Detroit, MI.

The New Looking Glass my space site is up as of September 19th.

September 19, 2008--Check out jeff speaks for the latest.

Happy 60th Birthday to Elliot Lurie

August 19, 2008-Elliot Lurie, the original lead singer/guitarist, voice of "Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)," is 60 years old today. You've come a long way...from a nice little Jewish boy from Brooklyn, New York, to a hit songwriter, movie soundtrack supervisor in Hollywood!!

It's great to be working with you brother. From the band and all of us;

 circa 1969

HAVE A HAPPY BIRTHDAY ELLIOT!!

July 12, 2008 PHOTOS COMING SOON!!

Looking Glass Rocks Wyandotte!!!!

The July 12, 2008 Looking Glass performance went over great. We played to a huge, enthusiastic crowd. If you were there, thanks for coming out!! The entire show was taped  in Sonar Audio. Elliot and I will be mixing the show in another month or so.

Check back tomorrow I will try to post some pictures from the show, plus a birthday celebration for one of its members will be posted here!!

Looking Glass to Play Michigan!!

Looking Glass, the group that brought the world the 1972 #1 classic, "Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)", will play the Wyandotte Street and Art Fair, located off Biddle St. in downtown Wyandotte, MI, at 6:30 PM on July 12, 2008 for the first time since 1972. The last time the band played Detroit it was a double billing with a then unknown struggling new group called Steely Dan.

The band will play two great shows from 6:30 PM-8:15 PM. Both shows will include the hits, album cuts from the debut and Subway Serenade, as well as some surprises. Looking Glass' other hits include "Jimmy Loves Maryanne, #28, 1973, as well as The Lizzie McGuire Theme, 2003. Looking Glass features original lead vocalist, voice of "Brandy", and "Jimmy", Elliot Lurie, as well as Jeff Lehman, Craig Williams and Eric Mackey.

Since taking over as the group's music director, it has been one fun ride. We've played Vegas, Minnesota and what is arguably the best show of my career in Port Washington, NY at Bar Beach this past Memorial Day. We performed in front of an enthusiastic crowd of thousands of people.

Being able to perform a show of this magnitude in my hometown is very cool!!

06-22-07Here my Latest Radio Interview with Am 1220 Radio

I had the pleasure of being interviewed by Chuck Phillips of AM 1220 Radio in Cornwall, Ontario. Since "Brandy You're a Fine Girl" was such a bit hit over in Canada as well as the US, it only made sense to promote abroad. The interview took place on Friday June 22nd.

03-08-07 Looking Glass Group Montage From Las Vegas Gig on Site

Until I get the official looking glass site built, I will from time to time include the photos from our September 2, 2006 gig at The Cannery. I have uploaded our latest promo piece from the show. It's in the photo gallery at the bottom of the page.

12-18-06 Looking Glass Performs its First Concert Since 1974

On September 2nd the newly formed Detroit version of Looking Glass featuring original lead singer Elliot Lurie, stepped onto stage to a screaming, near sold out crowd of 1500. The concert took place at the Cannery Resorts Hotel and Casino in North Las Vegas, Nevada. The near one hour show featured "Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)", "Jimmy Loves Maryann" "The Lizzie McGuire Theme" and a variety of Looking Glass albums cuts and cover songs. Yours truly also got to perform "My Heart Wants to Believe You" a cut off of my "Lehman's Terms" CD. The song was given the Looking Glass treatment with layered background vocals and horns. The group was well received as the upcoming sound files will show.

Mp3s of this show will be coming soon. For now check out a PowerPoint collage of the photos of the Cannery gig.

07-19-06  Jeff to Perform With Looking Glass in Las Vegas

Yes it's finally here. After being broken up for decades the band Looking Glass is about to play it's first concert gig since 1974. I am pleased as punch to say that I will be performing with what is turning out to be a tight group. The group features Elliot Lurie, original lead vocalist and writer of the hit #1 1972 "Brandy (You're a Fine Girl) as well as a slew of top notch Detroit musicians. The show is September 2, 2006 at the Cannery Resorts in Las Vegas.

I took the job as the Music Director/2nd lead vocalist/keyboardist in 2003. It's been a long hard ride to get this music machine working, but it's picking up major momentum. Many radio stations across the country are coming aboard and supporting this act's touring.

02-27-06 NEW!!--A Brand New Song From Jeff

I have a brand new song that I recorded in January and February. The song "Thankful" is so far in demo form unmixed and without drums or guitar. So here it stands partially clothed for the public to view (...the millions of masses of people LOL....RIGHT!!) This mid tempo AC soft rocker has been getting rave reviews. Some say it is reminiscent of the 70's/80s style of Andrew Gold or Paul McCartney with modern production touches. I co-wrote this song with my good buddy and long time collaborator Gary Penz. I'm not sure what release the final version of this song will show up on.

12-12-05 Art-of-Fact Guitarist Norm D'Angelo Passes On

I received some sad news the other day that Norm D'Angelo had died of a sudden fatal heart attack on December 12. Norm apparently was found dead at home by his mother who lived with him. Norm was a good guitarist with a nice baritone lead vocal much reminiscent of the late Terry Kath of Chicago. We had some good times together. They say that death comes in "3s". Well he is the third member of Art-of-Fact to pass on...that I'm aware of. Making this even more strange is that he is the second guitarist to pass on amongst the guitarists who played on "Lehman's Terms". Will there be a third?

We'll miss you Norm

12-05-05 Jeff Interviews Funk Brothers Legend Joe Messina

I received a call the other day from none other than the BBC who needed a local studio hand to record an interview with Joe Messina. For those of you not familiar with Joe, he was the guitarist who did a plethora of session work on some of the biggest Motown hits of all time. With his band the Funk Brothers they provided the back bone groove of a good deal of that material. My assignment was to interview Joe on his work and opinions of the Marvin Gaye sessions for the "What's Going On' album. Of the 16 or so questions, they used about 3-4 answers from Joe. It was a fun project. The interview in its entirety runs on the Internet through 5pm (Eastern Us Standard Time) December 7, 2005. In Europe it is on conventional radio as well as the Internet. If you wish to listen to the interview follow the steps below:

Go to:

  1. www.bbc.co.uk/radio2
  2. Click “Listen Again”.
  3. Click “Classic Singles”.
  4. The Show will automatically start playing. You will hear about 5 minutes of BBC News before the show starts.

 HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL--JEFF

The Dream 20th Anniversary Show Announced

Yes folks it's finally here. After twenty years my old group The Dream is going to have a show commemorating 20 years in the business. Unlike the 10 year show this show will not feature the old players (other than yours truly) on stage. Being that there are so many players who have become alumni of the band, finding all of them, let alone scheduling them on one day proved to be a arduous task. If some of the old players show up, that's fine. We'll squeeze them in. Instead the show will feature 2 hours of piano entertainment (Rick Church and myself) followed by a 2 hour show from the band. Memorabilia and laughs will be featured along the way. This will be one hell of a show.

09-13-05 Jim Wirth to Get Air Play

I am pleased to find out from Jim that he is getting air play on WCZY 104.3 FM (Midland, MI) with "Simply Because", a AC mid tempo soft rocker off of his recent reissue of "Frozen In Time", partly recorded and co-produced by yours truly. Way to go Jim!! For more Jim information visit: www.jimwirth.com

Looking Glass (Jeff Lehman Group) Adds New Member Jim Wirth

I recently added Free Spirit Singer/Guitarist Jim Wirth to my band. Jim will play Looking Glass Shows as well as with The Jeff Lehman Group and his own band, Jim Wirth and Free Spirit. Jim will play guitar and double on keys as well as vocal support. Jim's a great addition to what is turning out to be a hot group.

09-06-05 Exclusive!!--Jeff Lehman Band Demo and Site Area Added

This is the area for my new band which has been formed to back myself and others for live shows. Initially this group was put together to be the new Elliot Lurie and Looking Glass. Maybe you remember "Brandy (You're a Fine Girl, #1 1972). Now the group exists to work independently for live and studio work. This also features the latest recording I've done in a while. 06-22-05 Guitarist Friend Bob LeBoulch Passes On

It is with sad news that I report the passing of a true friend and great musician Bob LeBoulch. Bob passed away late into the evening of June 20th. Although he hung out with my brother Rob more than me, my recollection of him was that of a genuine nice guy; sort of soft spoken and non-threatening. He was also a great guitarist. Making this feat all the more incredible was that he was blind in his last years of life. Bob was responsible for the ripping guitar solo on "Life Played In Real Time" from my 2002 release "Lehman's Terms". This song was also slated for release on a Population 3 CD. Rock on in that great gig in the sky Bob. We'll miss you much, but your memory remains that of a great one.

11-05-04 New Jeff Lehman Detroit News Article Released

This article concerns my recent musical success abroad and my songwriting and music craft in general. There's a cool shot of me in my studio as well. Thanks to Dorothy Bourdet of the Detroit News for this great piece. I'm still waiting for a link for this article and the one from Woman's Day. Stay tuned.

Art-Of-Fact Founding Member Jere Shafer Dies

It is with great sadness that I report the passing of a true friend, fellow bandmate and great horn player Jere Shafer. A robust, jolly no nonsense type of a guy. Jere was the type of a guy who you could always count on. Totally honest and hardworking. Jere died from heart failure on October 2nd. With his black brimmed hat, gotee and bald head Jere was also the mascot figure of the band, known for his trumpet solos as he often paraded across bar tables and counters. When people would say, "That band art of something...with that big guy in it", I knew who they were talking about. Jere along with Dave Adams had formed Art-of-Fact in 1988. The group enjoyed 15 years of local success here in Detroit before disbanding.

10-31-04 A New Detroit News Article about Jeff Lehman to come out November 2 or 3, 2004

There is a new in depth article about my musical success and career in general which will be out sometime early next week. This article will be localized in parts of Macomb County only. I will have a link for it on the site as well.

 Woman's Day Article Now Out

The article I did for Woman's Day Magazine is now out on the stands in the November 16, 2004 issue. I said in my former news message below it was in the November 19th issue--that's wrong. It's the 16th. My apologies. You can get the magazine at Walgreen's and some other convenience stores. I will try and get a link to the article. The article concerns fire safety and not music.

10-13-04 Jeff Lehman Article on page 2 of Detroit News

Neal Rubin did a wonderful piece on my recent radio success. Thanks Neal.

08-13-04 Jeff Lehman Interview with Woman's Day Magazine Completed

I recently completed a phone interview and photo session for Woman's Day Magazine. The article concerns fire safety as I chronicle a very important fire experience I had in December of 2001. There is nothing musical about the article other than it mentions my career as a singer/songwriter briefly. The issue is slated to hit the news stands November 19, 2004.

08-05-04 Everything Must Change Gets Airplay in Europe

I'm excited to announce that this past July I received two royalty checks that totaled out to an estimated 289 airs of Everything Must Change off my latest CD, "Lehman's Terms".. According to my BMI statement, the air play was from Switzerland. The time it was played was from October 2003-December 2003. Making this air play all the more intriguing is that this was not a song that I was really promoting. I was promoting Street Education and Desperation Street for the rock markets and One True Love and Every Road I Take for the AC markets. However, "Everything" rose to become the silent horse winner. When I sent my promo packs out to many stations worldwide around late 2002 little did I know that it would be a whole year before I received any air play. This is typical in radio as Don't Look Back sat around 2-2.5 years before it was played in Canada. My special thanks to the talent crew of musicians, engineers and producers I had working on this. And thank you to all of my supporters who have called the radio stations requesting my songs.

12-01-03 Radio Station Page Fixed

I have fixed the broken links on the Radio Station Page. I realize  some of you have informed me of these bad links and I am doing what I can to keep this page accurate. In the "here today, gone later today" nature of today's radio personnel, it's a challenge to keep this page fresh. But your input is helping to do so. Thanks and keep on requesting.

11-04-03 Jeff Lehman Looking for Musicians For a New Rock/Soul Band

I am currently looking for musicians for a new group that I am forming with my cousin drummer Craig Williams. I am now accepting demos/resumes, etc. for the following positions:

Bass Player/Vocals optional

Guitarist/Vocals optional

Female Vocalist/Instrumentalist preferred

Yours truly will of course be out front most of the time singing, playing keyboards, some harmonica and guitar. The group will play occasional weekend and some week night gigs. We will perform my originals and covers of acts such as:  Michael McDonald, Robert Palmer, Stevie Wonder, Steve Winwood, Sheryl Crow, Christina Aguilera and many classic rock and current rock/soul acts. We will span the eras from 60s-00s. The group will be both vocally and musically tight with a mouth dropping good show that will be two hour and a half sets.

If you would like to schedule a no pressure jam session to see if this works for you and if you'll work for this project, please contact me at: (586)-582-0657 or email me at: jjleh@aol.com. I look forward to hearing you.

And by the way, George if you're reading this, don't fret. I plan on still doing a great deal of dueling piano shows. I'm not leaving you.

09-28-03 Lehman's Terms Nominated For "Best Rock/Pop" CD at the DMA

I was recently pleasantly surprised to find out that my 2002 release won enough votes to warrant being nominated in the rock/pop category for the DMA (Detroit Music Awards) in January 2003. The CD didn't win first but was given recognition as a high contender in that category. I would like to thank all of the talented people who offered their musical gifts to the project and to those who offered opinions both positive and negative. Much was learned. I couldn't have done it with out you. Lets hope that we take first the next time around. For more information visit www.detroitmusicawards.com

07-11-03 Jim Gold & Gallery Show Cancelled

The January 30, 2004 Jim Gold & Gallery concert at Oakland Community College has been cancelled. However the group is practicing and promoting itself intensely. We are looking forward to more shows to come. Stay tuned.

03-21-03 Systems Problems Prevent Uploads

I recently encountered some trouble with the computer I use for my site. The modem died. I decided to move everything to a faster system that I have. I was going to do this anyway and this experience just expedited the process. I apologize for not being able to list my early March dates in the "Appearances" section.

02-07-03 Clear Out Sale of Jeff Lehman CDs. Everything Must Go

Without attempting to sound like some kind of a cheesy sales ad pitch man, I've decided to change the prices on all of my CDs. Lehman's Terms, however, will remain priced the same as the record stores. Its only fair you know. Hurry, Hurry while supplies last.  Check out the prices.

01-30-03 Noted Detroit Jazz Keyboardist Skip Kalich Dies at Age 59

It is with great sorrow that I report the passing of a true friend and fellow musician, Skip Kalich who passed on January 21st. Skip had been battling lung cancer. Skip was an incredible musician and had a very funny sense of dry humor. In my estimation he was the best, if not close to the best, jazz keyboardist in Detroit. He played in various incarnations of bands throughout the 70s and early 80s with my father, Bill Lehman and my mother Pat Lehman. Most notably though, was Skip's alleged touring with Frank Zappa's live group during the 70s. In 1995 Skip built a bar in Detroit with his son Geoff. The bar, "Twingos", is still a favorite hot spot among enthusiasts of intimate jazz. I have studio masters of jazz standards that my parents and Skip recorded together in March 1973 that are mind blowingly cool. I will plan on mastering these to CD.

We'll miss you Skip.

Jeff Cancels Gigs Due to Illness

Due to severe illness I've decided to cancel all shows from April 19-May 25th and indefinitely, anything beyond that date until a full recovery is made. I figure if I can't give 100%, I rather reschedule. I some how made it through the Ohio shows at Banana Joes not knowing how ill I was. I hope to be rocking soon.

Jeff Receives News of Elvis Shelton's Death

I received an email the other day from a Jeff Sumner claiming to be Elvis Shelton's son-in-law. He informed me of Elvis' death in January of 2001. This comes as quite a shock to me since I was at one time pretty closely linked musically to Mr. Shelton. I played in his band and recorded with him. He gave me my first taste of airplay on May 3, 1993 when "Hard Lovin' Truck Drivin' Man", a song I wrote and recorded for him gained some airplay. Elvis Shelton was a solid performer and a great entertainer. He was by far the best Elvis impersonator that I've ever heard. It is with great sorrow that I report this news.

1-20-02 Lehman's Terms Song Contest is Here

In an effort to get feedback on my upcoming CD's winning tracks. I'm asking you...that's right you heard me, you to pick the best two rock oriented tracks and the best two adult contemporary tracks. "So what's in it for me Jeff". I'm glad you asked. The first 20 people to take the contest and give us their feedback from January 20, 2002-March 21, 2002 will receive a copy of Lehman's Terms. Out of that group, one lucky person will win the "Royalty Contest", to be held at another date. With this contest we will enter the names of the 20 winners into a hat. We will pick one winner. That person will be made a beneficiary of the winning rock song and the winning adult contemporary song. The winner will be made a beneficiary of  5% of all mechanical royalties for the life of each song. If the song becomes a hit, that could be a potential jackpot. Here's the rub, Since I plan on creating an on-line email database of radio stations across the US, Australia and Canada on this site, if you're the winner, you can help navigate the song to success. You will be able to visit this site and make email requests to these radio stations. The more the songs get played, the more potential earnings. Please be advised that since radio station air play is sampled on a random basis, there is no guarantee of earnings. However, the more you request, or get your friends and relatives, even enemies to request the songs, the better your chances get.

7-8-00 Cub Koda, "Smokin' In the Boys Room" Writer Passes Away

Michael "Cub" Koda, the singer and songwriter behind the 1973 Brownsville Station hit, "Smokin' In the Boys Room" died Saturday July 1. Koda, 51, died at about 2:45 am of complications from kidney dialysis at Chelsea Community Hospital.

Koda, born in 1948, was also a member of Brownsville Station. He formed the group in 1969 after a run with many other local groups. The group finally disbanded in 1979 and Koda went solo. Besides performing, Cub also wrote for music trade magazines, including Goldmine Magazine.

I had the fortune of briefly playing with Cub in a 1992 version of Brownsville Station. The group didn't contain any of the other original members. We rehearsed for some shows at The Entertainment Center in Duluth Minnesota. It was a triple billing with The Drifters and Jim Gold & Gallery; (who coincidentally used the same back up band.) Basically we were really Gallery, but our identity changed to Brownsville Station when Cub took stage....some promoters will try anything to make a gig work.

Cub rocked the house that night. I remember exchanging blues solos with him. After my solo, he strutted over to my keyboard, threw his guitar about 20 feet in the air and caught it on the downbeat of his solo without missing a lick. I was told he had been doing this trick for years, but it seemed so spontaneous. I remember Cub being a spark of positive energy.

From the moment he met us at the airport in Romulus, MI to the trip back home I never seen him get angry or show any sort of attitude. Even when our flight was delayed, he made the best of it with story telling and conversation. I think some of the flight attendants and airport personnel could've benefited from Cub's positive demeanor. I personally was ready to deck a couple of them.

Cub lived every moment in life like it was his hit song debut heyday of 1973. For Cub, that was the way life was meant to be lived. My only regret is that I didn't get to know him better. Cub was a great entertainer, a great writer and a great human being.  He will be remembered by many. Coming soon is a Cub Koda Memorial Page on this site. Stay tuned. (The Detroit Free Press was used as a source for some of the above information.)

4-27-00 Jeff Lehman Web Site Changes to a Mostly 1st Person Format

Okay, so it's not the biggest news item to hit cyberspace. I decided to change to this format to make the site more personal and to not give a false impression that someone else is building and editing this site. They're not. Only me. I'll take all of the credit, and blame. The old  what's new articles below will remain in their old format, however.

8-17-99 Bob James Remembers Jeff’s Dad

Jazz keyboard legend Bob James admitted, via e-mail to an inquiring Jeff Lehman, that he remembers playing with his dad at MSU during their college days. It all started when Jeff e-mailed Bob asking him if he remembered his dad, Bill Lehman, who was one of the early drummers for the Bob James Trio. Bob replied back confirming with this reply, "Hi Jeff. Thanks for your letter. Distant memories!! That time of my life arrived for me when the old brain can’t store as much as it used to. But, yes I believe I do remember him. The two drummers with whom I worked the most with were Bob Pozar (now known as Cleve Pozar) & Omar Clay, but during the five years I was in AA there were so many different gigs and j am sessions. Please tell your dad hi. Warmest regards. Bob James."
