JEFF LEHMAN
At around age 8 a very young Jeff Lehman used to watch his father make homemade recordings of his band with his 2 track Teac tape machine. There were chords everywhere and equipment strewn about the basement. Jazz, blues and soul cats used to come over the Lehman house for some incredible jam sessions. Some of the pros old man Lehman used to play with included; Marvin Gaye saxophonist Larry Nozero (Mercy Mercy Me, What's Going On) and Arranger Dave Van De Pitte (What's Going On). Jeff's mother, Pat Lehman is also a phenomenal singer of R&B, jazz and soul. Many used to tell stories of the road to young Jeff. Jeff's fascination with music and recording gear began as he began to tweak a knob on the Teac here or there….mostly when dad wasn't looking.
Fast forward twenty five years later to 1997 and Jeff is graduating with a Masters Degree in Business from Central Michigan University. He has received royalty checks for airplay of his songs, made it into "Who's Who in the Midwest" and is fully entrenched in music, recording gear and another huge love…….computers.
Jeff's two careers, computers and music, once seemed very distant from each other. However as the digital boom of the early nineties exploded into the field of multi-media, these two careers have met , shook hands and are working closely together. Jeff is now able to utilize strengths in both careers simultaneously. He records music on his computer and trains people on computer office automation techniques. He uses these techniques himself in developing his own website which provides information on both of Jeff's endeavors; his music and his computer instruction.
As a Computer Office Automation Specialist, Jeff has spent 11 1/2 years covering a wide gamut of experiences; everything from graphics, presentation and engineering documentation, sound, office automation, sales, training, spreadsheets and now web page development…a new venture for Jeff….and probably not the last. As this information is being typed, he's probably trying something new.
Jeff's done computer work, training and management for major corporations such as; Ford Motor Company, Rockwell, Time Engineering, Contract Professionals, Engineering Technology, Goodwill Industries and Oakland Community College to name but a few.
As a musician, Jeff wears many hats; singer, songwriter, teacher, adjudicator, keyboard player, engineer and producer. In 1985 Jeff taught keyboards at The Music Castle in Royal Oak, MI. A then unknown drummer named Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers) taught drums in the next room. In February 1992, Jeff was elected into the AGM, American Guild of Music as adjudicator of International Music competitions. And in May 1993 he was elected into BMI, The Broadcast Music Industry for airplay of songs. Jeff has also performed live with many local and national acts, including Jim Gold & Gallery, "Nice to Be With You", #5 1972 and Cub Koda's 1992 version of Brownsville Station, "Smoking In the Boys Room" #2 1973. In 1994 a demo that Jeff had previously recorded for Jim Gold, had resulted in Jim's old label mate and now Chairman Of Motown Records, Clarence Avant, signing Jim to a publishing deal. Jeff performs both with a live band and solo. He captivates audiences with both musical expertise and showmanship. He also has been known to do impersonations of Michael McDonald, Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan and many others with uncanny accuracy.
In 1997 and 1998 Jeff received royalty checks for airplay of "Don't Look Back' off of his debut release. The song was played very frequently in eastern Canada during those times. On July 3, 2002 expect to see the release of "Lehman's Terms", a new CD from Jeff. The CD is a concept CD pertaining to a birds eye view of the human condition. It takes a musical rock and soul journey through a psychoanalyst's observation of life. The CD, complete with booklet, will feature songs by Jeff, a song by famed songwriter Eddie Schwartz, and performances by members of; The Teen Angels, Gallery, Population 3, Art-Of-Fact the former Temptations horn section and many others.
This is just a small glimpse of the high accolades Jeff has been receiving from important contacts. As he further improves his craft and maintains a constant striving for excellence, expect more to come in both of his now seemingly related fields; computers and music.
